Boxers and Boys
As many of you know we have two boxers. Snickers is a five year old, 50 pound brindle female. She is the sweetest four-legged person I've ever known (and as many of you know, I've known a LOT of four-legged people in my time). Blake is our fawn baby. He's three years old and weighs about 70 pounds. He is a very funny, athletic (just come to our door and you'll see the amazing 'Boxer-frog in action'), intelligent and energetic person. As you might have imagined, Snickers was fine with the baby from day one. At times she looks at me like "wouldn't it have been easier to have just gotten a boxer puppy?" but she sneaks in little smoochies and is very patient with Sasha.
We're still working with Blake and Sasha together each day. Sasha loves Blake. He pets him and offers him food. Blake is just SO excited about this new thing that he gets a little over the top. It will just take time and patience. It's wonderful that Sasha likes Blake so much. This would be so much harder if he was scared of dogs. But, as I've mentioned before, Sasha isn't scared of anything.
During our morning play time, Snickers, Sasha and I headed upstairs so I could put away the never ending baby laundry (Dad, I still contend that he needs every last outfit that Mom has purchased and more if Mom finds some really cute items. Some days it seems that we go through an entire wardrobe of clothes. It's amazing. Many of the 12 month items we have are at the end of their days. He's growing so fast.). Snickers started playing with Sasha. She would get down and charge at him then veer off at the last moment. Sasha at first wasn't sure what to do but he quickly figured it out. He would start stomping his feet and wait for her to charge at him and then laugh and laugh. He would then chase her and giggle. Finally Snickers grew tired and laid down but Sasha continued to stamp his feet for a few more minutes hoping she would take up the game again.
Snickers then decided to play with her camel. This was the first time that Sasha had the realization that the baskets full of toys might not be his or perhaps more accurately he was irritated that Snickers had scammed one of his toys. Snickers would grab the camel and toss it about while Sasha looked on in disbelief. She would bring it to me and I would toss it. Sasha began to chase after it too. At times he would put it in his mouth immitating Snickers. The look on his face was priceless. Like "Bluck ... this is gross. Now I have fur in my mouth" to which he would proceed to spit out the extra unwanted bits of hair.

And so the great friendship between boxer and boy has begun. Sasha is starting to figure out that they aren't just competition for Mom's attention, they are actually some of the best friends a boy could ever have.
