Medical Clinic Visit

Masha picked us up at 8:30 a.m. to go to the medical clinic for Mia's exit physical. We parked on the street and made our way to the building. Wow .. .was it ever crowded. Apparently this clinic is the largest children's clinic in Russia. The line was long but I saw no children. Strange .. where were they??? If they didn't have any children, what were they waiting in line for?

We made our way past the throngs to an empty office. We waited a short time and the doctor ushered us into the examination room. He introduced himself and said hello to Mia. He asked us to take all her clothes off. Now, Mia likes her clothes and she especially likes the shoes that she is wearing today so taking all her clothes off didn't go over. She started bawling. So she lay there naked and bawling until the doctor returned. The first thing that he told us was that our biggest challenge for her was to keep the boys away. Yes, we had already thought of that. The next thing he told us was that we should not pick her up when she's crying as this will just train her that if'she's bad tempered she'll get her way. Hmm ... obviously he comes from the same parenting school that Baba and I come from. Good. He also told us that orphans often are very attached to their footwear and that putting their shoes in plain site during naps will help alleviate their stress.

He took her measurements and told us that he thought that she was a fav at the baby home because she didn't seem very delayed. We paid our 1800 roubles and that was that (for those coming after us, have correct change. These folks didn't seem like they would be keen on finding change for anyone).

The Paos were waiting in the waiting room when we returned. They had their turn with their two daughters. Their youngest daughter had to have blood drawn. This is only necessary if previous blood work shows anti-bodies or something that might be suspicious. In their daughter's case she had anti-bodies from her mother so they did the blood test to just re-confirm what the baby home had determined. Lourdes filled out her oodles of Embassy paperwork and then we were off.

We are now headed over to the Warren home for lunch with Dinia, Ron and Toni. Should be fun!

You have to stop showing pictures of your baby girl because she is toooooo cute for my eyes to behold every single day!!! :) She's really a doll!!! The outfits are super cute, too! I've noticed she's not so encased in fabric. Has the general public decided it's Summer or something and not reprimanded you too severely? You must post a picture of that bunch of flowers that caused such a scene, too! Well, maybe wait until you are safely back in the US!

Thank you for documenting your journey! It's helped tremendously with my mental ones that I take to Russia every day. It's filled in the gaps and will help so much when we finally get to make trips for real!
