First Swimming Lesson

We have been talking about getting Sasha some swimming lessons for a while now. He is only three but we think it's SO important for young people to know how to swim. We of course have every intention of taking Sasha into Scouts where swimming is critical to your success.

We weighed all our options - the YMCA, the park district and private options and decided to get private lessons from the Lindenhurst Health and Fitness Club which is across the street. We joined this club a couple weeks ago. It's great! It has FitKids where Sasha can play with other kids while Mommy works out. Finally, I have a way to get my exercise in and I can actually get my skin and hair care in as well! It's fabulous!

Tonight was his first lesson and we were excited to see how he'd do. I had been talking to Sasha all week about going to swimming lessons and he was thrilled. Sasha LOVES water so he should really enjoy this experience. The first six lessons are a gift from Great Aunt Karen also known as the Godmother for his birthday. What a great gift!

He didn't have any problem going with Donnie, his instructor. And he let out a shriek of delight when he demonstrated how he could splash Donnie. He is not fearful of anything and soon was jumping into Donnie's arms from the side of the pool. His favorite game included running along the pool to make Donnie really work for his money when he jumped in. The folks sitting pool side to support their children were treated to quite the comedy act. People kept asking us if he was an only child (apparently all photographs stop once you get the second one. I hope that's not true. I don't want her being angry when it comes time to do a photo montage for her wedding and the only pictures we have are of her holding a GPS :). We were also asked how old Sasha was. Apparently starting at three is young but each of the instructors that I spoke with thought that if a child loves the water that you should start them out as soon as possible and three is the youngest they will accept.

So .. there he was kicking his little blue aqua socked feet and squeeling with delight through the pool. He's been asking every day if we can go swimming. Sunday will be his next lesson to make up for us departing for Iowa on Thursday for Easter.
