The Dawn of a New Day

Mia slept until about 7 a.m. and seemed to enjoy looking at herself in the mirror prior to an explosion of smelliness. Our routine thus far:

7 a.m. Mia awakes

8 a.m. Mia breakfast, then parent's breakfast

9 a.m. Mia fun time

10 a.m Mia nap time (parents wishing they could nap too)

Noon Mia lunch time

1 p.m. Forage for food for the next three meals (when you have to carry your groceries on foot many blocks back to your apartment, you don't really get a week's supply)

3 p.m. Mia nap time (parents totally worn out from shopping adventure)

5 p.m. Mia snack time

6 p.m. Mia play time

7 p.m. Mia dinner time

8 p.m. Mia sleepy time

So that's our day. Basically, we eat, sleep, play and get changed.

Mia had her first bath last night. We expected unhappiness which was our reality but she thought that splashing her was funny. She totally didn't approve of having her hair washed and, with it being so thick, it took a bit more time to rinse out than she liked. Once out of the tub, she was okay.

She does seem to enjoy Little Einsteins. She does jazz hands and bounces to the songs.

I've been working in teaching her some basic signs thinking that she'll be happier with us if we can understand what she wants. She has successfully learned More and this morning she signed All Done. That's very good. We'll start working on Eat and Drink next. She is definitely more verbal than Sasha was. Of course, he had more to overcome since he came out of the orphanage on Phenabut.

Sasha was better at self help skills. Mia seems quite content to be the damsel in distress. I'm sure this is a learned orphanage behavior designed to get attention. I keep telling her that the damsel thing doesn't work out very well. She should aim to be more like Cinderella than Sleeping Beauty. I mean Cinderella could talk to animals, was a hard worker, could sew, sing and dance, had a fairy Godmother, was nice, cheerful and she was a pretty girl. That's certainly a better role model than someone who pricks her finger and falls asleep and has to wait for a prince to rescue her. Snow White was okay too. She had many of the same qualities as Cinderella but obviously she wasn't very perceptive. I mean come on, did she really not see that the old woman was her evil stepmother who had come to do her in? What old woman would just happen to be out in the middle of nowhere selling apples? She may have been a pretty girl but perhaps she wasn't so bright.

So ... I encourage Mia to be more like Cinderella or better yet, be the heroine of her own story.
